I really looked forward to go there. All this history and important buildings, the security and the..security! you feel like u never left the airport and during one day you have to go through 3 or 4 metal detectors, take off your belt, watches, everything in your pocket has to go into a basket, no food and drinks. They are so secured and afraid, sometimes really stressed. Everywhere are cameras..on some roof tops there are agents with heavy guns pointing on something and u hope it is not you J wow! Some of the park rangers making jokes and don’t take it to serious, but u can count them on one hand! Really funny are those Asian shops/bistros on wheels. U can buy hot dogs, cold drinks, chips, bars, ice cream, and souvenirs and t shirts with prints like osama got obama’d or osama with a target ring and blood in his face! Who is buying this stuff? Guys please do me a favour : when u ever visit the Iraq (why and how ever), don’t forget to take this shirt with u, wear it and document this! Thanx!
Anyway the reasons to go there were history and political interests. So first day I head out to the Washington monument, white house, the world war 2 monument and Lincoln monument. Like in other cities you can reach all by walking; in dc through the national mall and along 14th ave. the next days i tried to get one of the much sought after tickets..washington monument and the capitol and for sure the white house. but to visit the presidents home u have to ask your senate or congress man to give u a pass/permission with a minimum of 6 months waiting time or if u are a foreigner, please contact your embassy 7 days in advance. for god sakes..so if someone would like to go into the white house, "book" in advance, no backpack, purse or/and cameras. from the outside it is a nice building and if u stand right in front of the front side u have a great view on thomas jefferson memorial. my favorite one. reminds me off the pantheon in rome and that is the intention. the most buildings are european style (greek, roman) or the washington monument as an obelisk (what is not the original one..it's washington as a greek god, nice body and his head on top; a few greek elements around). i barely remember who but one guy told me u can easily spend a week at the smithsonian. huaaha..it is true! African American History and Culture Museum, African Art Museum, Air and Space Museum, Air and Space Museum Udvar-Hazy Center, American Art Museum, American History Museum, American Indian Museum, American Indian Museum Heye Center, Anacostia Community Museum, Arts and Industries Building, Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, Freer Gallery of Art, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, National Zoo, Natural History Museum, Portrait Gallery, Postal Museum, Renwick Gallery, Sackler Gallery,Smithsonian Institution Building (The Castle)..and so on. one should choose wisely. i visited the sculpture garden, national history museum, the castle and it is not listed here, the us bureau of engraving and printing. the new 100 dollar note will be a blast :) great as well are the national archives, which host the bill of rights and the us constitution. and if u watched the movie national treasure u know what i mean *lol*
